Portaferry is located on the southern tip of the Ards Peninsula at the entrance to the Strangford Lough. It has approximately 4500 residents.

There are lots of things to do in the Portaferry area of Northern Ireland. Since the town is on the water there is great diving and fishing. Be sure to visit Exploris, which is the Northern Ireland Aquarium. It has an extraordinary seal exhibit and sanctuary that you will not want to miss.

The town holds an annual Galway Regatta at the marina. Boating and yachting are very popular for the residents and the tourists too. Check into renting a boat while you are visiting. Football, Tennis, Golf, Cricket, and Hurling are also very popular here. If you are lucky, you might happen across a local game in your travels through the town.

Getting around the area is pretty easy to do. You can take an 8 minute ferry ride over to Strangford. The ferry holds cars as well as passengers. It is much quicker than driving the whole way and much more scenic.

Even though they might be cheap or inexpensive in price, the quality and charm are still there.
