With a population of just over 22,000, it is the largest town in the district. In the 1600′s Omagh was known as a refuge city from residents fleeing Tyrone during the rebellion of 1641.
When visiting the Omagh area, the most frequently used airport is located in Belfast, from where you can catch the bus or hire a car to take you the rest of the way as there is presently no rail service directly to Omagh.
